News from Drogheda Educate Together Secondary School
Drogheda Educate Together post-primary is looking forward to a new school year, entering its fourth year as a post-primary school –
- welcoming its first group of Transition Year students, congratulating its first group of third-year students with JC results in September, and putting its best foot forward with a new group of first-year students.
In addition, DETSS would like to welcome new staff to the campus and look forward to beginning another successful school year.
Welcoming First Year Students
A vibrant and excited group of incoming first-year students joined the Educate Together school community on the morning of 31st August. They were greeted by Principal Susan Campbell and Deputy Principal James Mc Coy, and their class tutors.
Today the students give their votes to what will be their class name for the next three years of JC. The names chosen represented islands off the coast of Ireland – Bere, Achill, Spike, and Valentia. We wish our students all the best in their educational journey this year.
Transition Year – Events and Bonding Trip September
The Transition year curriculum has evolved from creating a unique learning experience full of personal growth and unmatched opportunities for its students.
The TY course prides itself on developing a strong and supportive curriculum based on the needs of the individual year group.
Transition Year in DETSS is not only the best possible preparation for the Leaving Certificate, with a varied curriculum and co-curricular opportunities, but will also help students prepare for becoming active, respectful, and confident students moving beyond Leaving Centre into the working world.
AIB Future Sparks
As part of Student Enrichment, the First-Year students are completing the AIB Future Sparks Programme. This curriculum encourages the development of key life skills that accompany and support students’ life transitions.
RSA – Road Safety Awareness Talk – Guest Speaker
DETSS welcomed RSA Guest Speaker Nicola Walsh to the school campus on the 10th of September 2022. In tandem with Awareness Week for road safety, students were given an informative talk on teaching children about road safety in an age-appropriate way, especially in relation to the wearing of seat belts in the correct way and wearing helmets when on bicycles on the roadway.
Extra-Curricular Back in Action for 2022-2023
DETSS is delighted to welcome the start-up of extracurricular events in the school for the new academic year. It kicked off with a bang when students got involved in basketball, volleyball, table tennis, chess, book club, debating, and football.
All sports groups have entered competitions this year, and DETSS is looking forward to promoting these vents as the year progresses. Congratulations to all who took part in the activities this month.
First Year Bonding Trip
All First-year students enjoyed a day out to Navan Adventure Centre for a group bonding day.
Everyone enjoyed the range of activities from crazy golf, and pitch - putt, to archery and a fun obstacle course. A great day for all students and staff involved.
DETSS Parent’s Guardian Committee Fundraiser Event – 5th October
Drogheda Educate Together welcome everyone in the community to support our school fundraiser for a Defibrillator for the school campus.
The event will be a fun-filled Quiz night, on the 5th of October in the Glenside Hotel, Drogheda at 7.00 pm. Everyone is welcome to what will be a great night for a great cause.
